For your first Seoul subway ride, focus on direction, transfers and the final exit. Use the next station on the platform sign to check that you are boarding the right way.
Card or single ticket?
For repeated bus and subway rides, a rechargeable Tmoney card is a practical default. Seoul’s published adult base fare is KRW 1,550 with a transit card or KRW 1,650 for a single ride. Distance and some services add charges.
For one ride, select the destination at a station machine and follow its payment and deposit instructions. Keep the ticket through the exit gate; reclaim any refundable deposit at the return machine afterward.
The details worth checking
Some trains terminate early or branch away from your route. Match the destination display as well as the line number. If you board in the wrong direction, get off at a suitable station and ask staff before leaving the gates to change sides.
A last train from your starting station does not guarantee your connection is still running. Check the full journey for the correct day and direction. During busy periods, let passengers off first and keep bags clear of doors.
