A standard physical Tmoney card has two separate costs: the card itself and the travel balance. Buying the card does not automatically fund your first ride.
Make the first top-up small
Load enough for your first planned journeys, then recharge as needed. Seoul’s adult subway base fare is KRW 1,550 with a transit card; longer trips and some services cost more. Budget the airport journey separately.
Foreign-card acceptance varies at recharge points. Confirm the payment method before queuing. At a machine, leave the card on the reader until completion and check the new balance.
A few details prevent gate problems
Keep other contactless cards away from the reader. For a group, a separate card per traveler makes gates and transfers easier. Ask about birth-date registration when buying a child or teenager’s card for youth fare benefits.
Seoul’s notice says the old 30-day prepaid Climate Card stopped accepting recharges after August 31, 2026; short-term passes remain. Airport buses and excluded services need separate planning.
Before departure
Check your balance a day before leaving. Refund locations, handling fees and eligible amounts depend on the card product and remaining balance. Read Tmoney’s current refund instructions before going to a counter.
