eSIM: prepare before the airport
Save installation instructions where you can read them while setting up the phone. On arrival, check which SIM supplies mobile data. If keeping your home SIM active for messages, review its roaming charges and automatic data-switching settings.
Pocket Wi-Fi: count the coordination cost
Check supported device count, data policy, battery needs, pickup terminal and counter hours. Review return, loss and late-return charges. If one person takes the router away, the rest need another connection.
A Korean number is not identity verification
SIM format does not determine voice or SMS: some eSIM products include both. Read the exact plan’s incoming/outgoing features and any registration requirements. A tourist number still may not satisfy a service’s identity checks; verify the booking method for a must-visit restaurant or event first.
